... 12 Basketball Utah The University Of Utah will honor the late Rick Majerus, the greatest basketball coach in the University’s history, by hanging a sweater in the rafters of the Huntman Center. He will join two players he coached who have their jerseys hung in the Huntman Center, Andre Miller and Keith Van Horn. SALT LAKE CITY — When it comes to retirement ceremonies, the University of Utah’s tribute to former head coach Rick Majerus will certainly be warm and fuzzy — in a literal sense. At halftime of Saturday’s game against Colorado in the Huntsman Center, the Utes will hang a banner replicating the late coach’s trademark sweater. Utah athletics director Chris Hill said the sweater just makes so much more sense than a jersey number. “It was, as they say, a no-brainer and we’re excited ...

Rick Majerus Utah Legend Basketball Coach Dies
... She asked Coach Majerus to do it. Majerus, of course, was there. At 2 a.m., he took Van Horn to a diner. They sat down. The coach told the freshman the worst words imaginable: Your father has died. Van Horn broke down in tears. Majerus consoled him. They sat there all night, telling happy stories about their late fathers, eating breakfast, and handling the pain. They cried together. They shared bagels. They hugged. They talked some more. When Van Horn finally walked into the morning light of Salt Lake City, he was ready to face the tragedy. Van Horn said he entered that diner as a kid, and by the time he left, he’d become a man. Majerus pulled him through. Majerus never had kids of his own, but he raised plenty of them through basketball. On the court, off the court, whatever was necessary. Whether the player needed calm advice, or an old-school cursing out, Majerus was there. He was always there. That’s why senior St. Louis University power forward Brian Conklin sobbed in the ...
Utah vs Colorado Starts Week 13 Pac 12 Football On Friday
... 12 Football Teams Utah vs Colorado Utah (4-7, 2-6) at Colorado (1-10, 1-7) at 1 PM MST (Noon PDT) on FX. The Utes will be staying at home during the bowl season for the first time in 10 years, after Arizona ran off 17 unanswered 4th quarter points to come from behind for a 34-24 win in Salt Lake City. That happened after Utah had come from behind twice themselves, including a run of 17 consecutive points in the middle periods. Freshman quarterback Travis Wilson appears to have emerging as the Ute’s quarterback for the future, though. Wilson completed 28 of 40 passes, for 311 yards, and both of the touchdowns in that mid-game run, and without any interceptions, easily out-performing Arizona’s more heralded Matt Scott. After rushing for 112 yards on 27 carries ...

USC Plays In Salt Lake City First Time In 95 Years
... 12 Football Teams USC – UTAH It is the first time that USC has played in Salt Lake City. Ever. Well at least, the first time in 95 years. Will the Utah Utes be intimidated? They say no, but after reeling from the speed of Arizona State and the blow-out loss, the last time the Utes played football 10 days ago, it is hard to believe that they just might have some doubts in the back of their mind. Welcome to mile-high (well not quite, its roughly 4200 feet in Salt Lake City, that is above sea level) Rice Eccles Stadium goes out to the Trojans who the Utes played tough last year in the Coliseum in Los Angeles. The 13th-ranked USC Trojans get back to work this week, as they take on the Utah Utes in Pac-12 action on Thursday night in Salt Lake City. Lane Kiffin‘s Trojans had their sights set on a national title in 2012, but those aspirations took a huge hit with a Sept. 15 loss at Stanford (21-14). USC however, was able to get some distance ...
